AUTUMN TERM 2017

We have been enjoying yet another busy and exciting term, with lots happening across the school each and every day!

We were delighted with a very positive and realistic review of our school by Muddy Stilettos which can be read here:  https://t.co/0SReZQjiuYhttps://t.co/LjQGnJMxwM

Staff changes
Mark Bushby has been appointed as new Head of Prep from January 2018. Mr Bushby joined St Joseph’s College in September 2015 when he was appointed to the role of Deputy Head Pastoral, and he will continue in this role until his successor is appointed.

Music
Music continues to play an important role in school life, and we are delighted to announce that we have been granted permission to build a new Music Department. We are so excited that our talented pupils will soon have such fantastic facilities. Please take a look at our walk through video: https://t.co/XOBVZDtlme

Drama
There is a real buzz in the air as rehearsals take place for "Little Shop of Horrors". Drama continues to be an exceptionally strong area of the school.

Sport
Our pupils have gone from strength to strength when it comes to sport: one has successfully reached the second phase of the U15 Berkshire football trials, another pupil has been selected to play for the Berkshire RFU Girls' U18s county squad, a Year 8 girl has been selected for trials at Chelsea FC, with another called up for the U15's county squad for rugby. The Year 8 girls finished third in the In2Hockey league, and there have been impressive wins across the girls' hockey and boys' football teams. We are especially proud of one of our students who won Junior Bronze at the recent National Ballroom Championships.

F
ounders' Day
We celebrated our annual Founders’ Day this term, where we remembered the four sisters who came over from France to start the school in 1894. It was lovely that we were joined by current and former governors and former members of staff. During the afternoon it was a great pleasure to welcome past teachers into Prep, as they toured the site: Mrs Bott, Mrs Clack, Mrs Hoskins and Mrs Kennedy all commented on the positive changes and continuing development of the College and asked us to pass on their regards to those families who remember them.

Inspirational visitors
We have received some excellent visitors this term, including Olympian athlete Mimi Cesar, guitarist Sean Shibe and renowned anti-bullying campaigner, Alex Holmes. Angela Farrugia, business guru and charity fundraiser, will be joining us for tomorrow's Speech Night.

Young Enterprise
Our Young Enterprise team Wyre were recently interviewed for That's Thames Valley TV. Their interview can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTn-50LMncI

Scholars' Society

We are delighted that the Scholars' Society is continuing to grow and flourish this term. From the excitement of discussing plans with our 2017-2018 scholars at the annual Scholars' Breakfast in October to the BP Oil Challenge, a creative writing workshop, to a trip to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, our scholars are experiencing a wide range of new opportunities and challenges. The scholars have also taken part in a Speakers' Corner event, a lecture by eminent historian, Dr Nina Ramirez, a trip to the World Premiere of 'Matilda the Empress' and a trip to 'Maths in Action' at the Emmanuel Centre in London.

Trips
As varied as the pupils themselves, are the trips which the students have enjoyed this term, including a visit to Iceland, theatre trips, visit to the Reading Museum of English Rural Life, retreats and teambuilding trips.

Parents' Association
The Parents' Association have continued to add excitement and diversity to the calendar, with their annual Race Night, Prep Film Night and forthcoming favourite, PA Christmas Fayre, taking place from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 25 November. They've raised some very impressive amounts too, with £12,000 presented to the school for new computers this term!
