Founders Day Celebration

Founders Day was a wonderful opportunity again for many of the extended St Joseph's College community, including past staff and governors, to join us in our annual celebration of the College.

Each year we commemorate in thanksgiving the four sisters who left France in 1894 on a Mission to bring the charism of St Marie Magdalene Postel to Reading.

The whole College came together to attend mass, which was kindly celebrated by Fr Christopher Heaps, of St James and St William of York Church.

Father Chris spoke about talents and gifts and emphasized that it is not about what your particular talent or gift is, but how you use it that matters.

The sisters had used their talents to create something big in St Joseph’s College. They had a great willingness to share and proclaim and today it is a community which is confident and which encourages, inspires, supports and challenges its pupils.

The invited guests then enjoyed a delicious meal and a chance to catch up on all the latest news. Our talented musicians kept the guests entertained and thanks to our Head Students who spoke with great maturity.

A presentation was made to retiring governor, Margaret Cross, to thank her for all her hard work and contribution to the College over the years. Margaret attended St Joseph’s from 1956 to 1960 as a pupil. In more recent years, she has served the College community as a governor, fulfilling the role for the last 16 years.  Margaret retired as governor earlier this year and today she was presented with a limited edition water colour painting of Broad Oak.

Thanks to all the staff and pupils, both past and present, who helped to make this such a memorable celebration of the history of the College.
