Felix is currently studying for his A Levels in Music, Philosophy and Economics in the Sixth form at St Joseph’s College and will be heading off to the Royal Academy in September 2023.

Felix had an audition back in December where he played the first movement from the Mozart Bassoon concerto as well as Gustave Schreck’s sonata. He has just found out about this wonderful news and is absolutely delighted.

When we caught up with him and ask him about his exciting news, Felix said:

“The school teachers, my tutor, Catherine Millar and my parents have been incredibly supportive, and I am enormously grateful to them. The College is full of performance opportunities where one can gain lots of experience. My most memorable performance was in the summer, where I had the privilege of playing the Mozart Bassoon Concerto with the London Mozart Players. It was a tremendous honour and deeply inspiring. I am now looking forward to and preparing myself for the exciting years ahead!”

Being accepted to the Royal Academy has taken a lot of patience and hard work. Felix is also an accomplished violinist, pianist and organist and keeping his playing up to standard across all his instruments takes a lot of time and dedication. He explained how he manages this by trying to get as much schoolwork done as possible while he is in the College so he can focus on his instrumental practice at home.

Felix’s achievement is particularly remarkable as he only started playing the Bassoon about four years ago; he was immediately hooked from his first lesson, and he has been playing ever since.

Congratulations Felix! We wish you all the best and look forward to keeping in touch when you leave the College this Summer.
